sampling

Cards (6)

  • research needs to be as representative as possible the sample 'looks like' the target population
  • random sampling:each person in the target population has an equal chance of being selected, chosen by chance
  • systematic sampling:sample is chosen from a list at an interval e.g. picking every 6th name from a register.
  • stratified sampling:the target population is sorted into categories, then randomly chosen from those categories in a way that represents how large that group is.
  • snowball sampling:the researcher finds one person who they know, that person then introduces them to another and so on.
  • quota sampling:researchers go and find people who fit what they are looking for.
