• Jews “Yehudi” (There are 14 million Jews in the world)
• Jews are scattered in the world
• “Judaism” and “Jew” were derived from “JUDAH”

  which was the last name of the fourth of the 12

  sons of Jacob
• Jews became a term to refer to the members of

  the Kingdom of Judah
• One becomes a Jew by ancestry or religious affiliation
• Jews are called Hebrews and Israelites.
• Hebrew being descendants of Abraham
• Israelites being descendants of Jacob
• Israelites mean “God’s chosen people”
• Non-jews are called Gentiles
• Abraham and Moses are the founders of Judaism
• Through Abraham that God made a covenant
• Through Moses that God made a commandment
• The Torah – sacred text of Judaism

  by his brothers

• Israelites were forced to become slaves after

  Joseph’s death
• God chose Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt
