2.2 cell division/binary fission

Cards (12)

  • G0 phase - resting stage where cell is not actively growing or dividing
  • cell cycle - series of events that occur between one mitosis to the next
  • Cell division happens because
    • growth
    • repair
    • reproduction
  • binary fission
    1. replication of circular DNA and there is an increase in cell size
  • 2- 2 circular chronometer migrate to the ends of the cell
  • 3- the cell membrane pinches in 2 and a new cell wall formed and eventually breaks off to from 2 cells
  • g1:cytosol amounts increase and proteins synthesis mitochondria and chloroplasts divide
  • s stage: parent cell replicates its dna and by the end, there will be 2 identical copies of the dna.
  • g2 spindles form and the cell grows to twice its size
  • p- chromosomes condense and become double stranded. The nuclear envelope also breaks down.
m- the chromosomes move to the middle of the cell and spindle fibres attach to them.
a-the chromatids get pulled apart at opposite ends of the cell
t- a membrane froms and the chromosomes de-condense
  • cytokinesis is where new membranes are formed and break apart into 2 cells.
  • plant cells have cytokinesis where a cell plate extends to the the sides of the cell to complete the separation
