Cards (5)

  • Describe how a peptide bond is formed between two amino acids to form a dipeptide
A dipeptide is formed during a condensation reaction between 2 amino acids. This takes place between the amine/between the NH2 and carboxyl group creating a peptide bond.
  • The secondary structure of a polypeptide is produced by bonds between amino acids. Describe how.
The secondary structure of a polypeptide is formed between amino acids where hydrogen bonds are present. This forms a beta pleated sheet/alpha helix. The bonds are between the NH and carbonyl group
  • Two Proteins have the same number and type if amino acids but different tertiary Structures. Explain why
Two proteins have the same number and type of amino acids but different tertiary structures because they have different primary structures and the amino acids have disulfide, hydrogen and ionic bonds in different places.
  • Name digestive enzymes found in the plasma cell membranes of cells lining the small intestine
Maltase, Dipeptidase, Lactase and Sucrase (Remember enzymes of disaccharides!)
  • What molecule other than proteins can be found using a biuret test
Alpha glucose, the biuret test can be used to find the presence of reducing sugars such as glucose.
