  • ie rules - use I before E except after C. remember ALICE
  • ei rules - use E before I when sounded like /ey/ as in neighbor or weigh
  • author - a person who writes a book.
  • illustrator - a person behind the creative visuals that u see in books.
  • setting - the time, duration, and place an author chooses to write about
  • settings of the story, time - can be in the past, present, or future
  • backdrop setting - vague and simple time and location
  • temporal setting - focus on the time of a setting
  • character - Is someone in a story. either a human, a fantastical or mythical creature, a talking animal. they have traits that define them and influence how they act in a story
  • antagonist - opposes or fights against another character (usually the protagonist). or villain term
  • plot - series of events that make up in a story.
  • rising action - main parts of the story which includes the problem
  • climax - the turning point of the story. the most exciting or surprising part of the story.
  • falling action - the events that follow the climax. leads to the resolution
  • resolution - the end of the story
  • conflict - the plot is centered on this conflict and the ways in which the characters attempt to resolve the problem
  • moral of the story - underlying message of a story. it is a lesson that teaches u how to behave in the world
