8.3 Transpiration

Cards (7)

  • Transpiration:
The loss of water vapor from the leaves
  • The higher the temperature the greater the kinetic energy of water molecules and the greater the rate of evaporation leading to higher transpiration.
  • High humidity decreases the water potential gradient between the leaf and the atmosphere and the rate of transpiration decreases.
  • Wind speed: Removing water molecules will maintain a steep concentration.
  • Transpiration Stream: The movement of water from the roots to the leaves through the xylem.
  • Transpiration pull: the suction, force or pull that draws water up through the plant.
  • Wilting: The process of losing water from the plant and causing the plant to wilt.
