Inheritance and monohybrid

Cards (9)

  • Allele is different versions of the same genre which can be either dominant or recessive. Each human can only inherit 2 alleles for each gene. An examples is blood type such as A and B (dominant) as well as O (recessive).
  • Punnett Square is used to predict the possible gene makeup of offspring.
  • Both pairs of a gene are the same for a particular trait– is called homozygous or purebred.
  • One dominant and one recessive gene for a particular trait – called heterozygous or hybrid.
  • A gene is a segment of DNA that determines a trait.
  • Humans have 46 chromosomes or 23 pairs, one set from dad and one set from mum.
  • Gregor Mendel is known as the Father of Genetics.
  • Incomplete dominance occurs when one allele is not completely dominant over another, causing the alleles to blend.
  • Codominance occurs when both alleles are expressed.
