  • 1/4
    Central executive
It has a supervisory role. It monitors incoming data and divides our limited attention and allocates slave systems to tashs. The CE has a limited capacity and doesn't store information.
  • 2/4
    Phonological loop -1st slave system
The PL deals with auditory information and preserves the order in which the information arrives. Its subdivided into the ;phonological store-stores words you hear and; articulatory process which allows maintenance rehearsal. The capacity of the loop is believed to be 2 seconds worth of what you can say.
  • 3/4
    Visuo-spatial sketchpad - 2nd slave system
The VSS stores visual & spatial information when required. Baddeley believed its capacity is 3 or 4 objects. Logie subdivided the VSS into the visual cache ;stores visual data and; the inner scribe which records the arrangement of objects in the visual field.
  • 4/4
Episodic Buffer - 3rd slave system
The EB was the latest addition to the WMM by Baddeley. Its a temporary store for information, integrating the visual, spatial and verbal information processed by other stores and maintaining a sense of time sequencing. It can be seen as the storage component of the CE and has a limited capacity of about 4 chunks (Baddeley). The EB links working memory to long term memory and wider cognitive processes such as perception.
