Rostow's model

Cards (2)

  • Limitations to the Rostow Model:
    • Old/ outdated and assumes all other countries will follow the same path as the USA and Europe
    • Movement between stages is mechanical with little exception
    • Assumes all countries start with the same amount of natural resources eg Coal (powers industry)
    • Doesn't account for technological advances / international aid
    • Doesn't account for issues such as debt
    • Stages overlap or merge making it hard to identify which country goes where in the model
  • Rostow Model:
There are 5 stages which categorise a countries development
