• Do not lie is also one of the 10 commandments: "thou shalt not bare false witness"
• Lying would break 2 of the 4 cardinal virtues: courage and justice
• "lying is in itself evil and to be shunned while truthfulness is good and worthy of praise"- Aquinas
• "Every lie is sin"- Aquinas
• Aquinas says that in a situation where it is necessary to lie, a half truth should be said
• "It is not lawful to tell a lie in order to deliver another from any danger whatever"
• "it is lawful to hide the truth prudently by keeping it back"
