  • The test for reducing sugars is Benedict's solution.
    the benedict's solution is placed in a water bath at 70C for a few minutes and if positive: orange/green and if not: it stays the same
  • Protein- Biuret test, (blue color)and if positive, it will go from blue to purple
  • Lipids- Ethanol solution (clear), turns cloudy
  • Starch- iodine test: Add iodine solution to food sample. If starch is present, the solution will turn blue-black
  • Elements of Carbohydrates and lipids: Carbon,Hydrogen,Oxygen
  • Elements in Proteins: CHONS
