inherited disorders

• recessive disorder: a disorder that cannot be cured as it's genetic - caused by mutation
• Ff - heterozygous, carrier
• FF - homozygous dominant, not carried/carried on to children
• ff - homozygous, recessive
• cystic fibrosis: genetic disorder caused by mutation (recessive disorder).

  • can't be cured as it's genetic
  • produces excess thick and sticky mucus

  -> makes breathing harder

  -affects lungs, digestive system and reproductive system
• symptoms of cystic fibrosis

  frequent chest infection and infertility
• polydactyly (dominant disorder):

  • caused by a dominant allele
  • extra fingers/toes
  • not harmful
  • even if you're Ff or FF, it'll still be passed on
• some dominant genetic disorders have a much more widespread effect on the way the body works e.g. Huntingtons disease

  -> (a condition that stops parts of the brain working properly - passed on (inherited) from a person's parents)
