  • The ovaries are the female reproductive glands that produce eggs (ova) and secrete estrogen, progesterone, and inhibin.

  • Progesterone prepares the uterus for pregnancy by thickening its walls and maintaining the uterine lining until the baby can survive outside the womb.
  • Females have two ovaries which alternate each month to produce an egg.
  • The fallopian tube consists of microvilli that secrete a substance that maintains a moist environment in the tube and may provide nutrients for the egg as it passes through.
