    - follow instructions for dry flushing
    (repeat until lines are completely dry)
    - remove unit bottle and place on carrier in wall, no hand towels are needed to catch drips
    -follow instructions for suction

    - PPE kept on to remove and dispose of sharps
    - place all contaminated instruments back into tray for dispatch
    - remove all contaminated barrier coverings
    - remove all PPE and dispose of in clinical waste
    - wash hands

    Which areas need to be barrier wrapped?
    remove gloves and wash hands then put the barrier wrap on high risk items ( that are contaminated with blood and saliva):

    -Light handles
    -headrest
    -bracket table handle, surface, and switches
    -the 3 in 1 and the lead
    -all hand piece leads and ultrasonic leads
    -all suction tubing
    -buttons to operate the spittoon

    What areas should you wipe?
    work systematically (from low risk to high risk areas)
    and wipe:

    -Dental unit surfaces and sink
    -dental chair including the headrest, dental light and light handles
    -bracket table surface, handle, and switches
    -3 in 1 syringe and lead
    -all hand piece connectors and leads
    -suction connectors
    -spittoon

    Universal cleaner wipes

    How do you flush the 3 in 1?

    ( need to be flushed manually)

    Hold over the sink, spittoon or using a disposable container, press the water button for 30 seconds at the start of every clinical session

    after flushing, remove gloves and wash/decontaminate hands. Put on clean gloves for pre operative cleaning

    How do you flush the lines?
    Hold the water lines over the sink, spittoon, or using a disposable container, activate the toggle switch for 30 seconds at the start of every clinical session

    What should you do with the dental unit's water bottle?

    set up units water bottle to flush the lines:

    Add an ICX tablet to it, then fill with either distilled, reverse osmosis or potable water, secure bottle to unit and sanitise your hands again before wearing gloves

    What goes in yellow sharps bins?
    Waste that contains medical residues e.g. medically contaminated needles, syringes or bodies

    - need to be replaced with 3 quarters full

    What goes in orange clinical waste bags?
    Clinical and infectious waste e.g. contaminated swabs, aprons, gloves, masks etc.

    Clear waste bags (not regarded as clinical waste)
