  • Discrimination is treating people differently because they are different from us, it can be positive or negative.
  • Prejudice is an attitude towards someone or something based on little knowledge

  • Upbringing - Some people have been brought up with prejudice opinions, mostly from the parents or relatives
  • Media - The media can influence our views about certain groups of people by showing them as criminals or terrorists
  • Education - Education can teach children to respect other cultures and religions but it also teaches stereotypes which can lead to prejudices
  • Religion - Religious texts often contain negative comments about other religions which may lead to prejudice
  • Scapegoating- sometimes people try to blame others for their problems such as unemployment and pick on those of a
    different ethnicity or religion
  • Lack of education: some prejudice is the result of ignorance and misunderstandings ab the culture of others
  • A bad experience: person may have a bad experience with a particular person or situation, which may lead to a negative view of the world
  • God made men in his image this means that life has value because God Made it in his image, therefore all life should be treated equally
  • Love your neighbour: Jesus said love your neighbour as yourself so we must show compassion towards our neighbours regardless of race, gender etc.
  • There is neither Jew nor Gentile , slave nor free , male nor female , for you are all one in Christ Jesus.This means everyone is equal in God's eyes so we should treat everyone equally as we are all deserving of love and respect
  • Do not judge lest ye be judged : Jesus taught us not to judge other people but instead accept them for who they are. This means we shouldn't make assumptions about someone based on their appearance or background
  • Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called children of god : Jesus teaches us to strive for peace and harmony between different groups of people. We can do this by treating everyone fairly and showing tolerance and understanding
  • The golden rule: Do unto others as you would have done unto you. This means we should always try to put ourselves in another persons shoes and treat them how we would like to be treated if we were in their position
  • We should get to know people before making a judgement about them.
  • Speak out and challenge people when you hear them making prejudice remarks
  • Don’t form an opinion about a group of people based on one bad experience with one person.
  • Ableism is to treat someone differently because of their disability.
  • Prejudices against disabled people include believing that they cannot work, that they are not attractive enough to marry, that they will never achieve anything worthwhile, that they are dangerous and unpredictable, that they are a burden on society and that they are inferior to able bodied people.
  • sectarianism is a narrow minded view of religion that is exclusive and intolerant
  • Sectarianism can be seen as the belief that your own religious sect or denomination is superior to others.
  • We could reduce sectarianism by educating people about religious, cultural and political difference and allowing them to meet eg through integrated schools
  • People upbringing and life experiences will always influence their ideas about people and is very hard to overcome
  • Social media and influencers can present false information and manipulate followers to believe certain things then scapegoat people or rally support for ideologies
  • all things common among them; therefore there were not rich and poor, bond and free, but they were all made free, and partakers of the heavenly gift.
    this means that we are all equal in the presence of God and deserving of his love therefore deserving of respect and equality
  • they were in one, the children of Christ, and heirs to the kingdom of God. ( vs 17)
