    Organismic self
    • The second subsystem of the self
    • Defined as one's view of self as one wishes to be
    Ideal self
  • Perception of all discrepancies between organismic self, self concept, and ideal self
    Incongruence
    • 1st level of awareness
    • the experiences is on the unconscious
    Ignored or Denied
    • Either due to overwhelming and stimuli limited attention or the experience being uncomfortable in nature
    Denied
    • not acknowledge by the individual
    • things that are not sensed by our senses due to over stimulation
    • outside of the awareness of individual
    Ignored
    • The experience is non threatening and consistent with the self concept so we can incorporate into understanding of yourself
    • experiences and behavior that aligns to your self-concept
    • 2nd level of awareness
    Accurately symbolized
    • experience is not consistent with view of the self, thus reshape the experience so that it can be assimilated into our existing self-concept
    • 3rd level of awareness
    Distorted
    • when a person denies themselves to accept a praise or compliment, they distort the compliment to fit their self concept, which is someone who is undeserving of said compliment
    Denial of positive experiences
