• Water deficit is when there is more demand than water supply
• Water surplus is when there is more water supply than demand
• The north and west of the UK has water surplus
• The south and east of the UK have water deficit
• Transferring water is expensive and destroys habitats but is the only way for areas with water deficit to have sufficient water
