  • India contains one of the largest iron and steel companies in the world, the Tata Iron and Steel Company which is located in the Bihar region close to iron ore supplies.
  • India is the tenth largest steel producer in the world.
  • Another natural resource that is exploited to attract industries is the produce from the country’s agricultural sector.
  • Food processing industries have established e.g. Tea production in 
    The Assam state.
  • Cotton and jute are 2 other agricultural products that are processed in the Assam state.
  • Tea production makes up 13% of India’s exports and a further 30% is made up of textiles and clothing.
  • The Assam state has promoted agri-industries such as the manufacture of chemical fertilisers and agricultural machinery to provide products which are needed for the Green Revolution in agriculture.
