Government Policy ( secondary )

• India could become a major competitor for the USA and EU in the future however manufacturing is still over concentrated in the cities of Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore.
• Over concentrated manufacturing is in part due to poor transport networks in other parts of India.
• Government is trying to improve the transport network
• Mumbai is the main port and pharmaceutical industries have located here to allow them to export their product.
• Also traditional heavy industries such as Iron and steel went into decline in the 1980’s.
