  • Strain: common overstretching injury of a muscle.
  • Etiology: lifting too much weight, improperly lifting, or repetitive lifting. 
  • Symptoms: soreness, pain and tenderness.
  • Diagnosis: Most of the time a diagnosis is based on a physical exam and history. 
  • Treatment: rest, moist heat, and using analgesics and anti-inflammatory meds. Later, physical therapy may be needed to restore strength and flexibility. 
  • Prevention: avoiding extreme fatigue and warming up before exercising.
