  • Dislocations and Subluxations: dislocation is the complete separation of a bone from its normal position in a joint.
  •  A subluxation is partial separation. 
  • Etiology: major traumatic injuries like MVAs, contact sports, or falls. It can also happen from disease or a joint abnormality. 
  • Symptoms: acute pain and obvious joint deformity. 
  • Diagnosis: history and physical exam by a physician. An x-ray can also help in determining the extent. 
  • Treatment: reduced or repositioned by a physician immediately. General anesthesia may be needed. 
  • Prevention: maintaining muscle strength around the joint. Bandage wraps, braces, and special padding can help.
