  • Low back pain: lumbar area of the spine is very susceptible to stress or strain.
  • Etiology: obesity, poor posture, weak abdominal muscles, and constant or improper lifting.Most common causes is a herniated intervertebral disk.  
  • Symptoms: may be acute and resolve in days or chronic that can last a lifetime; lumbar spasms.
  • Spasms: involuntary muscle contractions.
  • Diagnosis: X-rays, Ct scan, and MRI.
  • Treatment: rest; warm, moist heat; analgesics; and anti-inflammatories. 
  • Prevention: walking and exercise program and making sure you are lifting properly.
