Science - Nervous, Circulatory, Respiratory

Cards (17)

  • The heart is the organ that pumps blood around the body.
  • The nervous system is made of the nerves, spinal cord, brain
  • Central Nervous system is made of the brain and spinal cord
  • Nervous system is made of the Central Nervous system and Peripheral nervous system
  • Peripheral nervous system makes up the nerves outside the Central Nervous System.
  • Peripheral Nervous System made up of 2 Systems. Somatic and Autonomic system
  • Autonomic Nervous System is made of 2 systems. Sympathetic and Parasympathetic nervous system
  • Sympathetic Nervous System is your fight or flight reflexes. Increases heart rate.
  • Parasympathetic nervous system is the rest and digest system. It is the opposite of the sympathetic nervous system. Decreases heart rate.
  • How does the blood keep moving?
Musculatory system - muscles contract to increase pushing force to keep blood moving Valves - open and close to prevent blood from going backwards (when muscles contract) Breathing - Movements cause pressure in veins in chest
  • Arteries - carry oxygenated blood AWAY from the heart.
  • Capillaries - point of exchange, takes nutrients from the blood
    ex: oxygen and carbon dioxide
  • Veins - carry deoxygenated blood TO the heart.
  • How does your cells obtain nutrients and dispose wastes?
Obtain - blood transports nuterients to cells, capillaries take wastes to the cell membrane
Dispose - through cell membrane back through the capillaries; opposite way from obtaining
  • Respiratory System - supplying oxygen to body cells and removes carbon dioxide.
  • Diaphragm - contracts and moves down to breathe in, relaxes and moves up to breathe out
  • Air passes through the: 1/ nose or mouth 2/ pharynx 3/ Larynx 4/ Epiglottis 5/ Trachea 6/ Bronchi 7/ Alveoli
