  • An example of how there is sexism in the media is the Gender Pay Gap - In 2023, there is a gender pay gap of 9.4%
  • Laura Mulvey's (1975) Male Gaze Theory - The portrayal of women as overly sexualized objects in advertisements perpetuates gender stereotypes and reinforces the objectification of women (creating an unrealistic beauty standard)
  • Women have often been abused behind the screen by powerful film producers such as Harvey Weinstein (who used his power from films like Scream, Kill Bill & Lord of the Rings) who abused Gwyneth Paltrow, Rose McGowan & Cate Blanchett so they could get into the media by sleeping with him
  • Jimmy Saville also abused many people behind the cameras due to his position as a TV presenter and salient charitable work (aging from 5 to 75 year olds)
  • The Gender Pay Gap is an example of how sexism is present in the media, as it reflects unequal pay and opportunities for women compared to men
  • David Cameron shadowed Angela Eagle in 2011 where said "Calm down dear" to show a patronising & sexist nature
  • Hillary Clinton was completing a speech for the presidential race and someone shouted "Iron my Shirt", "Bitch" and "emotional"
