Like many people see other aspects as their main identity, those who live with physical/mental impairment can often find that this is the most important aspect of their identity (this is impacted by the way they are seen by others in society)
It can be said that how people with disabilities are viewed has improved quite a lot in more recent years with events such as the Paralympics raising awareness of the positive achievements of disabled people
Disability Discrimination Act (1995) gave legal protection & rights to disabled people
Even though views of disability have improved, there is still a lot of discrimination & social/physical barriers to inclusion (This can have a significant impact on a person's identity/experience)
