Lee Ridley is a comedian who suffers cerebral palsy (this means that he communicates with an aid) and has often pondered the question 'Does disability make you feel awkward?'
The disability charity Scope UK conducted a study that found 2 thirds of people felt awkward talking to a disabled person, and so they launched a campaign to remedy this
The survey found 43% of people don't know anyone who is disabled (which is statistically unlikely) - It's just that some disabilities are more visible than others as not all disabled people require a wheelchair
The survey found 1 fifth of people have disabilities that are congenital (from Birth) - Ridley called the other 4 fifths 'not yet disabled' because being able-bodies is not a lifestyle guarantee
The consequences of being disabled are serious - Ridley & Scope UK Campaign are trying to eradicate, not the disability itself, but the awkwardness that surrounds it
