weathering

• weathering is the decomposition of the earths rock
• soil is a mixture of the parent rock, organic material(humus) air and water
• soil provides an environment for the the growth of plants
• soil may be found overlying the parent rocks
• soil maybe transported by natural forces such as water, wind and glycid action and deposition at other location the process is called EROSION
• weathering involves the breakdown of bed rocks (unweathered rock) into smaller pieces (weathered rock)
• there are three forms of weathering: chemical, biology and mechanical(or physical)
• rocks are made up of material that have different level of solubility
• sodium chloride (common salt) is soluble and is only found as a solid (rock salt) in very dry areas
• oxidation occurs when mineral in rocks combined with atmoshperic oxygen or oxygen dissolved in rainwater
