Cards (7)

  • Ventricular Tachycardia:
    • medical emergency + needs defibrillator as it can lead to ventricular fibrillation
    • cant distinguish a P wave
    • regular pattern of heart rate, but tachycardia
  • Ventricular Fibrillation:
    • ventricular tachycardia can lead to ventricular fibrillation
    • where the ventricles are continuously fibrillate
    • can lead to myocardial infarction, but itself is not a myocardial infarction
    • atrial flutter is less common than atrial fibrillation
    • flutter is an unstable rhythm
    • regularly irregular
    • saw-tooth features
  • 3rd degree heart block:
    • 3rd degree heart block is a total loss of electrical connection between atria and ventricles
  • Atrial Fibrillation and Atrial Flutter:
    • Possible causes?
    • Pathology: - Myocardial ischemia (CAD- AMI – Heart failure – COPD or PEs), myocardial irritability (hypoxia, cardiac surgery), electrolytes
    • Health: - nicotine, caffeine, alcohol
    • Possible signs and symptoms?
    • Irregular to very irregular raised pulse
    • SOBOEloss of atrial kick
    • Atrial Fibrillation - Irregular / chaotic wave forms from numerous different locales
    • Atrial Flutter - Regular repeating waves, Caused by a single big circular circuit, Saw-tooth shape
    • Nodal/Junctional Rhythm - There is no atrial electrical activity
  • AV Heart Block:
    • First degree heart block – Long PR interval no dropped beats
    • Second degree heart block (2 types)
    • Mobitz Type IPR interval Longer, Longer, Longer .... Drop
    • Mobitz Type IIPR interval Longer but constant ..... AND Drop
    • Third degree heart block – PR interval all over the place
