The purpose of marriage in Judaism

Cards (5)

  • The purpose of marriage is to create a relationship in which God is directly involved. For example, the Ketubah- a marriage contract in the Jewish Law.
  • To provide the secure home that every Jewish couple hopes God will give them. Most of God’s blessings come to Jewish couples through love and family time- “Son’s are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from him”.
  • Two sexes should no longer be alone. In the creation story this was the reason why woman was created by God - “It is not good that the man should be alone. I will make a helper fit for him”
  • “Love is patient love is kind“- Love actively waits for others without resentment.
  • “Two shall become one flesh“ - to seal a permanent relationship between husband and wife.
