Purpose of sex

• Abstinence- promoting not having sex until marriage (target audience- teenagers)
• Celibacy means a lifestyle without marriage and without any sexual relationship.
• Chastity= decision not to have sex before marriage
• Judaism teaches that sex is a natural and basic human activity. It is one of God’s greatest gifts to the human race. They also agree that it was God’s intention that the gift should be used wisely.
• The Torah states the importance of having children- “Behold, children are the fruit of a womb and a reward”
• To provide joy and a sense of fulfilment
• To demonstrate a deep personal commitment between a man and a woman
• As a way of giving oneself totally to another
