2.6.2- Mitosis

    Cards (9)

    • Interphase: the period of general cell growth and preparation for mitosis.
    • Prophase:
      • DNA coils around a histone protein
      • Chromosomes and chromatins condense
      • Centrioles produce spindle fibres
      • Nuclear envelope breaks down
    • Metaphase:
      • Chromatids lineup at the centre
      • Fibres attach to the centromere
    • Anaphase:
      • Chromatids are pulled to the side by the fibres and motor proteins
    • Telophase:
      • New nuclear envelopes are formed around the two new nuclei
      • Chromatids uncoil
    • Cytokinesis:
      • Division of cytoplasm
      • Creates to genetically identical daughter cells
    • Cytokinesis in animal cells results in the cell surface membrane being pulled in by cytoskeleton. This forms a cleavage furrow which breaks to form 2 daughter cells.
    • Cytokinesis in plant cells creates 2 new cells by getting vesicles containing cellulose, to line up at the metaphase plate, and fuse with each other & the cell surface membrane. (Cell wall prevents formation of cleavage furrow)
    • Mitosis has 6 stages
