  • Depression is a mood disorder defined by constant and long lasting state of sadness
  • Behavioural aspects of depression are reduction is activity level (lacking energy to do ,anhedonia, lack of pleasure from those activities), eating behaviour (weight gain or loss), increase in aggression (form of self harm)
  • Emotional aspects include sadness (low mood) and guilt ( helplessness and feel no value in comparison to others)
  • Cognitive aspects are poor concentration (can be indecisive) and negative schemas ( automatic negative biases)
  • Physiological symptoms of depression include fatigue, sleep disturbances, appetite changes, headaches, muscle tension, gastrointestinal problems, sexual dysfunction, increased risk of suicide
