24.4 Quarks

• Quarks and leptons are the building blocks of all matter, they are considered to be fundamental particles, any particle that contains quarks is called a hadron.
• A proton consists of three quarks: up, up and down or simply uud.
• A neutron consists of three quarks: up, down and down or simply udd.
• Baryons are any hadrons made with a combination of three quarks, for example protons and neutrons so are anti-protons. Mesons are the hadrons made with a combination of a quark and anti-quark.
