valence electrons of each metal atom have become delocalised (don't belong to atom) so electrons move freely while nuclei (cations) remain fixed
metal is a good conductor: allows for current to be carried through sea of electrons
metal is malleable: can bend and shape because electrons allow for strong attractive forces
metal has a high melting/ boiling point: because the force between atoms is strong and there is a range due to difference bond strength
transition metals have unfilled d-shells (commonly Iron and Copper, using roman numerals to identify) which tend to create harder, more dense, higher melting point atoms due to their small size
