  • What are the properties of Hydrogen?
It is a colourless gas that reacts violently with oxygen when ignited
  • Describe the test for Hydrogen?
Place a lighted splint in a test tube containing the gas. If the gas is hydrogen, there will be a squeaky pop , as hydrogen burns when mixed with air

  • What are the properties of carbon dioxide?
    A colourless gas
  • Describe the test for carbon dioxide?
We use limewater - an aqueous solution of calcium hydroxide . Use a plastic pipette to draw the gas out of its test tube . Then bubble the gas through the test tube of limewater . If carbon dioxide is present , the limewater turns cloudy
