Tools and equipment should be checked thoroughly to identify functional ones and those that are not
Functional tools and equipment should be stored safely in accordance with salon requirements and local health regulations
Non-functional or faulty tools and equipment should be segregated and labeled properly for repair or discarding
After every working session, the following steps should be taken:
Discard empty bottles and containers in a covered trash bin
Sanitize finger bowls before use of every client
Keep used treatment products and other chemicals arranged and properly labeled in the cabinet
Flush the hand and foot spa machines with a solution of about 5% bleach and circulate the liquid through the system for at least 5 seconds
Leave the solution in the hand and foot spa machines overnight or for at least 5-10 hours before draining the machines for thorough sanitization
Wipe the table tops and door handles with disinfectant and mop the floor with disinfectant as well
Plastic tools should be kept clean and sanitized properly for the next patron
Sterilize metal tools and instruments following proper sterilization techniques and store in a dry cabinet until needed
Tools/implements made of porous materials like nail files, buffers, nail brushes, and orangewood sticks should not be reused as they can harbor bacteria easily
Properly dispose of waste materials in an enclosed waste bin fitted with a polythene bag, sanitize the bin regularly with disinfectant in a well-ventilated area, and wear protective gloves while doing this
Dispose of contaminated wastes as recommended by the local authority
Any tool or equipment in poor condition must be repaired immediately or disposed of properly to avoid danger to clients and beauticians
All properly cleaned, disinfected, and dried implements/tools should be stored in a sanitary manner
A lined drawer is usually adequate for storage, provided it is clean, contains only clean items, and is properly labeled
Store soiled or used items in a properly labeled, covered container separate from clean items
Avoid using airtight containers or zipper bags as they may promote bacterial growth
