PMQs

• PMQs - televised and theatrical - people pay attention and can easily watch it to see what Parliament is doing
• Makes PM more directly accountable to Parliament
• PMQs force development of policy
• PMQs allow PM and leader of the opposition to manage their parties
• PMQs sometimes considered pansy politics
• Sometimes PMQs are considered too theatrical as not much can be discussed and it is only 30 minutes to answer a lot of questions on a wide range of topics
• MPs may propose amendments or changes to bills during debates, which can shape the final outcome of legislation.
• PMQs may be considered to be a danger to the reputations of the HOC, MPs and the PM as it somewhat diminishes the Parliament as a supreme body if its members act so childishly. Also MPs have to be able to think quickly to defend their policies so that the government can function well and pass necessary legislation
