  • what is a reflex action?
    a reflex action is an automatic, involuntary, and quick response that is done without the interference of the brain. This reflex is adapted to a goal which is to escape any danger. it is for protection.
  • pathway of reflex action
    stimulus --> sense organ: receiving surface (receptors) --> spinal cord --> effector organ: a muscle or a gland --> response
  • label the following reflex arc
  • the sensory neuron is a unipolar neuron and the motor neuron is a multipolar neuron
  • the cell body of the sensory neuron is located in the spinal ganglion. and the spinal ganglion is located in the posterior root
  • the sensory nerve fiber is a dendrite and the motor nerve fiber is an axon
  • to differentiate between a dendrite and an axon, the reference is the cell body.
  • to differentiate between sensory and motor pathways, the reference has to be the spinal cord.
    sensory= towards
    motor= away
  • the cell body of the motor neuron is located in the anterior root in the grey matter.
  • motor end plate is the gap between the motor neuron and the muscle
  • interneuron connects the sensory neuron to the motor neuron. its located in the gray matter of the spinal cord
  • the elements that make up a reflex arc:
    1. receptor
    2. sensory neuron
    3. spinal cord (reflex center)
    4. motor neuron
    5. muscle
  • nervous message is unidirectional means that it propagates in one direction.
