Push and Pull Factors: Mexico -> USA

• High crime rates in Mexico mean people often get caught in the crossfire of violence or are living in fear so want to leave.​
• Jobs aren’t high paying so people struggle to afford the basics.
• Poor rural housing which cannot withstand extreme weather (too hot, no air con.).
• Poor medical facilities so many people go untreated or cannot afford private medical treatment.
• Less educational opportunities so people are stuck in the cycle of poverty as they cannot get high paying jobs.
• American Dream encourages people to move to the US as it is advertised to inspire people to believe that if they work hard, they will achieve great success.
• Higher paying jobs as the minimum wage in the US is $7.25 an hour but in Mexico it is $1.75.
• Better qualifications as schooling is better in US and there is a greater opportunity to go to college/uni.
• Better housing due to better building standards in USA.
• Meeting families already there as some people may already be living in the US and have established a good life there which encourages the rest of the family to go.
