    Participants were not afforded confidentiality. Report gives their first names and initial of their last name. Case histories provide considerable detail of their lives both make it easy for anyone to identify individual and their families

    Children and families were seen at the clinic in the years 1936-39 and report was published 1946 . This suggests the clinic team would not have decided to use the data for this study atthe tim the children were treated it would have been difficult to obtain consent 5 or more years later

    • Where children are involved in research it’s usually accepted that parents are asked to provide valid consent.
    • The children and their families were seen in the clinic 1936-1939 whereas the report was published in 1946, it would have been difficult to obtain consent five+ years later
