    . can explain bullying as people will categorise individuals as outgroup (the bullied) and ingroup (the bullies) - bullies will all have a similar characteristic eg dominance
    . this group formation leads to negative out group bias and outgroup homogeneity bias leading to prejudice and bullying towards the bullied
    . to reduce bullying: raise the self esteem of the bullies eg by expanding group size, so their personal identity value increases so they no longer feel the need to bully people to boost their social identity

    . bully may have experienced a strict upbringing which will have lead to them displacing their anger they have towards their parent/authority figure onto those they see as lower on the social hierarchy leading to bullying behaviours towards others
    . to reduce bullying: inform parents on ways to bring up their child to avoid this personality development, give bully another way to displace the anger
