  • Selection pressure = a biotic or abiotic factor causes a particular trait to have an advantage over another thereby influencing natural selection
  • stabilising selection - Individuals with the average characteristic or trait have the advantage and so most individuals will evolve to be more like the average.
  • Directional selection - Individuals with a more extreme characteristic are selected for.
  • disruptive selection - Individuals at either end of the spectrum are selected for
