• 161 camps set up with food, water, medical supplies and sky tv
• 11,000 volunteers including ambulances, fire engines and the army were sent in to rescue survIvors
• Cranes and diggers were used to remove the rubble
• New settlements were built to accommodate 20,000 people
• The government payed for 100% of the rebuilding
