  • USA, Britain and France united their zones in Trizonia, even more obvious divide
  • USA, Britain and France decided to have the same currency called the Deutschmark
• Berlin Blockade 1948

  • USSR decided to block off the only land route to Berlin which stopped food and essentials getting into Trizonia
  • Stalin hoped west Berlin would be so starving that they would hand themselves over to USSR
• Berlin Airlift 1948-49

  • America decided to fly in resources instead
  • Stalin couldn't shoot down planes as it would be way too aggressive
  • Soviets gave in and removed the blockade
• Consequences - Berlin Blockade

  -Made Stalin look weak

  -West proved they could win peacefully

  -3 days after, USA, France and Britain united as West Germany/Berlin
