  • Dexamethasone[Decadron®]: Long-acting
    Pharm: corticosteroids
    Therapeutic: anti-asthmatics, corticosteroids

    Dose: 0.5-2mg/kg/day divided every 6 hour, 0.08-0.3 mg/kg/day(anti-inflammatory)
    Action: suppress inflammation and the normal immune response

    Action- drawing in water into the lumen of GI tract, treatment of occasional constipation
    Adverse- urticaria, abd bloating, cramping, flatulence nausea

    Contra- GI obstruction, bowel perforation gastric retention
    education/consideration- take as directed, pt 2-4 days to produce bowel movement, 
    should not be used for more than 2 weeks

    Thera- analgesic

    Action- inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins, alleviate moderate-severe pain

    Action- suppress protein synthesis at level of bacteria, used in pregnancy for skin to skin

    Action- acts as vitamin k replacement, prevent hemorrhaging in neonates
    Adverse- hyperbilirubinemia, pain at injection site

    education/consideration- babies have sterile guts thats why they need vit k because they dont make enough

    Pharm- immune globulin
    Thera- vaccines, blood product

    Action- prevent production of anti Rh antibodies(Rh - pts), Ph- mom with Rh+ baby
    Adverse- N/V, diarrhea, rash, acute renal failure, anemia

    Contra- hypersensitivity
    education/consideration- protect future infants, Rh+ blood in mothers system with attack future fetuses

    Pharm- water soluble vitamin
    Thera- antiariemcs, vitamins

    Action- required for protein synthesis, red blood cell function, necessary for normal fetal development
    Adverse- rash, irritability, difficult sleep, malaise, confusion

    education/consideration- in early pregnancy needed to prevent neural tube defects
