• Tobacco Control - part of the WHO's aim of uplifting international public health, the agency approved and released its first global public health treaty
• Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) - enforced last 2005 and was considered to be widely adopted treaty in the UN system with 180 participants
• FCTC - aims to protect the present and future generations from the devastating health, social, environmental, and economic consequences of tobacco consumption and exposure to tobacco smoke.
• Article 5.3 - declares the protection of public health policies with respect to tobacco control from commercial and other vested interests of the tobacco industry
• Article 8 - states the protection from exposure to tobacco smoke
• Articles 9 and 10 - include provisions on the regulation of the contents
• Article 11 - covers guidelines on packaging and labeling of tobacco products
• Article 12 - states the importance of education, communication, and training for public awareness
• Article 14 - includes measures necessary to reduce demand for tobacco
• Article 13 - covers tobacco advertising, promotion, and sponsorship
