Muscle system

Cards (33)

  • there are 3 types of muscles : cardiac, skeletal, smooth
  • cardiac muscle is involuntary
  • skeletal muscle is voluntary
  • smooth muscle is involuntary
  • the function of the deltoi is abduction at the shoulder
  • the fucntion of the bicep is flexion at the elbow
  • the function of the tricep is extension at the elbow
  • the function of the pectoral is horizontal adduction at the shoulder
  • supinator is palms facing up
  • pronation is palms facing down
  • the function of abdonimals is flexion and rotaion of the lumbar vertebrae
  • the function of the obliques is lateralflexion of the waist
  • the function of the quadricep is extension at the knee
  • the function of the hamstring is flexion at the knee
  • the function of the hip flexors is flexion at the hip
  • the function of the gluteals is extension/ hypertension at the hip
  • the function of the tibialis anterior is dorsiflexion at the ankle
  • the function of the gastrocnemius is plantaflexion at the ankle
  • the function of the soleus is plantaflexion at the ankle
  • the function of the erecto spinae is extension of the spine
  • the function of the trapezium is that it elevates and depresses it the scapula
  • the function of the latissimus dorsi is adduction at the shoulder
  • antagonist muscles that relaxes
  • agonist muscles that contracts
  • at the elbow a pair is tricep and bicep
  • at the knee a pair is quadricep and hamstrings
  • a synergist is muscles that enable the agonist to operate effictively . They work together to control and direct movement
  • a fixator is a muslce that stop any unwanted movement and they stabilise the origin
  • isometric contraction make the muscles length not change at the angle at the joint remaining the same
  • isotonic contraction has concentric and eccentric
  • isotonic concentric is the upward, positive phase and muscles will get shorter
  • isotonic eccentric is the downward, negative phase and would make the muscles longer
  • there are 3 types of fibre and they are : type 1 slow twitch , type 2a fast twitch , type 2b super fast twitch
