• Facts are pieces of information that can be proven and observed as true or untrue.
• Opinions are based on a person’s belief, feeling, thought or judgment about something.
• Opinion Marking Signals words are think, perhaps, believe, suggest, probably, usually, personally, and feel.
• Opinion Marking signals phrases are I think… I believe... I feel... I suppose... I guess... From my point of view… In my view… In my opinion…. In my eyes… It seems to me that…Based on what I know…It is my belief…As for me…
• IN GIVING OPINIONS … First, make sure that the situation warrants an opinion. Ask yourself if you’re the best person for the job. Start by listening politely. Think before you speak. Make sure you have all the facts. Say what you think in a detailed, straightforward manner. Use “I” statements. Provide the reasons for your point of view.
