Cardiogenic Shock

• Occurs when the hearts ability to contract and pump is impaired -> supply of O2 is not enough for the heart and tissues
• Patho

  • CO is compromised -> Bp is low -> tissue perfusion is low->
  • Impaired tissue perfusion weakens the heart -> impairs the ability of the ventricles to pump fully at systole -> fluid accumulates in the lungs
• Manifestations

  • Angina
  • Dysrythmias
  • Fatigue
  • Express feelings of doom
  • Sx of hemodynamic instability
• Drug therapy are vasoactive meds

  • Vasodilators to decrease afterload
  • Inotropes to increase contractility
