  • Blood is sitting in vessels and pooling into extremities-> dont go back up to the heart
  • 2 main causes are
    • SCI
    • spinal anesthesia
  • Caused by vasodilation from loss of sympathetic tone
  • Manifests warm, moist skin, HPN with bradycardia
  • SNS control BP, HR, and vascular tone.
    • In neurogenic shock, SNS doesnt respond to body stressors
  • Nursing Interventions
    • HOB at least 30 degrees
    • elevate head, so it anesthetic agent dont do up to SC
    • pt at high risk for DVT because of the pooling and vasodilation
